Eleven manuscript legal documents and one printed legal document completed in manuscript, written in several unidentified hands, most recorded at the Republic of Texas District Court in Nacogdoches County. Indictments for illegal sale of liquor are present for Robert F. Millard, Frederick D.T. Yordt, and Andrew C. Walters. Indictments are dated during March term, 1838, and are signed by N.B. Thompson, district attorney pro tem, and by James H. Starr, grand jury foreman. Warrants, dated September, 1838, and signed by Hayden Arnold, pro tem clerk, are present for William Newell, Boley C. Walters, and John Paulding, with a second warrant for Paulding dated in December. Warrants refer to District Court proceedings to be held at the Old Stone Fort at Nacogdoches; annotations on versos indicate whether warrants were executed. Also present are three later documents recorded at the Texas State District Court at Nacogdoches: a brief document, 1856, relating to Thomas Remelee, charged with selling liquor to a slave; and two bonds for retail liquor dealerships, signed by Robert Usher, June 5, 1880, and a printed form completed in manuscript signed by David Lee, December 16, 1881.
